Eight is Great

May 13th, 2008

In case you missed it yesterday during Drive Time Sports from 3-6pm on KCKK AM 1510, the guys and I went over 8 ways why Baseball is lame and boring. It was a slow day in sports in Denver with no NBA or NHL postseasons to talk about and the Rockies had the day off, so we broke down the following 8 reasons baseball doesn’t matchupto other sports (a list started on msn.com). I would like to hear what you have to say about them. Do you agree or disagree. They are as follows:

Schedule- One hundred and sixty two games in a regular season is 142 too many. Come on.  By the time July rolls around, a game-winning home run or strike out in the bottom of the ninth doesn’t mean squat, except that it’s finally time to go to bed.

Physical Fitness-?It’s no shocker that you don’t have to be Mr. Universe to play baseball.

Fair-Weather Sport- Ask any football, soccer, rugby, or lacrosse player what they think about rain delays in baseball. What they’ll imply is that baseball players are a little less manly than other athletes simply because they won’t play in the rain.

Statistics- If I want a lesson in mathematics, I’ll walk through the halls of MIT, but for those of us who’d rather leave our brains at work, the cold-beverage-intake-to-bladder-outflow ratio makes a whole lot more sense.

Going the Distance- If a quarterback can get nearly knocked unconscious multiple times by 300-pound defensive ends for four full quarters, then why shouldn’t a pitcher have to throw a ball 60 feet for a full nine innings.

Superstitions- Evoke God in public schools, at any bar, or even on national television and you’re likely to be shown the door. Yet baseball fans collectively acknowledge a higher power that influences their favorite teams and players.

Off-Season Shenanigans- Baseball is a year-round sport and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.

Fantasy Teams- Enough with the fantasy teams, already! You know who you are.

The Sun Still Rises and Shines

May 6th, 2008

So unless you have been living under a rock and are not aware of what has been going on in sports in the last week, well… learn to type in www or pick up a paper that is now in the recycle bin (only if you are trying to erase your carbon footprint) and you will learn quickly what people has been so discouraged by. Sports fans, especially Denver sports enthusiasts haven’t had too much to simply smile about, but come on…isn’t there always tomorrow? We tend to focus on all the negatives and how disappointing things are at that moment, but turn the page and guaranteed there will be something else to talk about when the sun comes up…good bad and ugly. Shouldn’t we try and focus on the positive no matter what? I may be playing into the Little Miss Sunshine act, but maybe if we didn’t take things so seriously, the negatives wouldn’t stand out as much. Are we as a society really that cynical? Sports are an entertainment outlet, a game for all who are involved…athlete or spectator, and they should be looked at just as that….a game, that will go on tomorrow.

Baseball isn’t for kids

April 29th, 2008

On the heels of the news coming out that Roger Clemens had a ten-year affair with one hit wonder country singer Mindy McCready I feel I need to comment on having a relationship with a 15 year old, allegedly. First of all…gross! Unless you are a mentor and/or never spend one on one time with a minor without parental supervision; should you ever have any friendship with someone, especially it being a female whom is underage. Only 15 year olds should have relationships with 15 years olds, give or take a few years… not thirteen. He was 28 years old at the time of the friendship…what exactly was he doing with her? Telling her the truth about algebra. Come on! However you want to look at it, Roger Clemens seems to have things in his past that are coming out to bite him in his credibility/defamation lawsuit. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens after Ms. McCready’s album drops of course and her reality show airs. Talk amongst yourselves and feel free to comment.

Superstitions

April 22nd, 2008

What truly is superstition? Webster defines it as excessively credulous belief or a widely held but unjustified belief in supernatural causation. However you want to define it literally, people have different superstitions, but why I ask? I myself wake up in the morning and do things in a certain way, I may even eat the same cereal, only because I may have one kind in the cabinet and decide to finish the box before buying anymore, not because I think it will help me have a better day. Aren’t in fact some superstitions people have just simple a routine? And when are superstitions taken to the extreme? I think anytime they involve uncleanliness! If you don’t change your socks for two weeks because you think your shooting percentage will increase, is ridiculous. I’m all for ones that involve maybe showering 10 times a day or wearing the same scent. Anything that is pleasant to the nose J So just out of curiosity, do any of you have superstitions? I would like to hear how ridiculous they are!

Reminders

April 8th, 2008

This week will prove to be a much mellow week than last. The hype and build up for Opening Day was exhausting and not to mention disappointing due to the Rockies getting swept by the Diamondbacks, but Mile High Sport Radio/Magazine and TV had a great time and was seen and heard all over Blake Street. Thanks to all of you who came out to see us and who picked up a copy of the April Baseball Issue with Troy Tulowitzki on the cover. It’s still early in the season and even though the Rox are 2-5, the team around MHS is still excited. If only the weather would warm up for once!

The Avs will play the Wild this week and hopefully the Playoff spark will bring the fans back. All in all it is a good time in CO if you are a sports lover.

Be sure and listen to Drive Time Sports today as the guys talk about round one of the playoffs and I will have a special guest on from the Avs, plus wait until you hear what I have on for “Geared Up” sponsored by Sportsfan. It is hilarious! Remember if you guess the item you win $20 to Sportfan!

Hitting the Road

April 1st, 2008

As many of you may know I was born in Denver and am a fourth generation native of Colorado. I absolutely loved growing up here and have established my life in the Rocky Mountains not only because my family is here whom I love dearly but also because I feel like Colorado has a lot to offer.  Here is where I could talk up the city/mountains but if you live here you know exactly what I am talking about! Not to mention we have the best four seasons around!!

I was fortunate enough to spend my youth playing recreation sports and I always loved dancing. It was a true accomplishment to make it to the professional level cheerleading for the National Football League. Now I am ready to take it to the next level.  Visiting Las Vegas always brings out a different side of people and my last visit there sure did with me. I decided soon after last April that I would do whatever it took to find a job I loved there and move a fast as I could. I have always loved the theatrics of the stage, especially the magic shows.

I thought I would use my blog to let all the readers and listeners know that I have enjoyed my time here in CO and with Mile High Sports, but I will soon be an assistant at one of the biggest magic shows in Vegas! Wish me luck and thanks again for all your support. I am truly so excited for this opportunity! Hopefully I will be able to update everyone from time to time.

Until then!

Moving out of Bracketville

March 25th, 2008

I am not sure if you have been keeping up with our breakdowns of our brackets on Drive TIme Sports, but in case you were wondering how I was doing, don’t worry you will have more free time on your hands now. My bracket is done. Arkansas will not be the 2008 NCAA champs whom I had in the final game against Memphis. Who knew!  J Actually I am not that upset because it proves my point exactly. I flipped a coin for all of my choices, and maybe I didn’t use a lucky penny because it didn’t go so well for me, but it could have. These are chance games. One year there will be a 16 seeded team that beats a number 1 seed. Just like flipping a coin it’s all about chance. So if you are still doing well in you bracket, good luck to you. Whether or not you win your office pool is the only reason this tournamnet is exciting! Go Memphis ;-)

Hope to see you at the Pepsi Center today as DTS will be there live for the Hockey Guild from 3p-6p. Come on out and say hello.

Hugs and Cheers,

Green Snow

March 18th, 2008

My last blog was beaming about how nice the weather was and how excited I was for Spring to be here…well being a Colorado native, I should have known better. The light snow we got early yesterday was exactly what I was not looking forward to. Well, actually it lended to my excuse for not participating in Amateur Hour a.k.a St. Patty’s Day. To all of you who like celebrating little scary green people who chase the thought of gold being at the end of the rainbow all day, more power to ya. I hope you at least drank enough to misremember that you are no longer in college! haha. It’s all in good fun I know, and now I can’t wait to see what everyone does for Easter. Happy over marketed holiday season! Oh and enjoy March Madness! Keep listening to Drive Time Sports from 3p-6p on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1510 for the breakdown of all the brackets. Hopefully Nate and James can give me some tips on a strategy J

Birds and the Bees

March 11th, 2008

On the heels of our first complete day with Day Light Savings in affect I definitely have Spring fever. It didn’t help that I was in Arizona for Rockies Spring Training a week ago enjoying the first taste of baseball season as well as 80-degree weather at the ballpark. Walking out of the studio last night it was still light as day and the warm breeze and smell of Spring was rushing through out Larimer Square. I was soaking it all up. I see many patio play times in the near future.

The team of us at Mile High Sports Magazine and Radio are gearing up for Opening Day, so be sure to stay tuned for updates on all the festivities we have going on!

Today will be a jammed packed show. “The” Nate Kreckman will be on assignment in Vegas hoping to check in with James and I. Dial in to see if I have anyone in my cell phone worth calling up or stop by the studio to check out what gear I am duded up in.

As always feel free to comment on my blog and ask me any questions. With a new season upon us I am like an open book :-)

Enjoy all the sunshine!

Update from Spring Training

March 4th, 2008

Good morning everyone. So I am en route back to Denver this morning and am
writing to you on my Blackberry, so forgive me if this entry is short.
Rockies Spring Training was a blast. I took in a Rox/Brewers game on
Saturday and enjoyed the hot weather to the fullest. Doug Ottewill met me
down here Monday to do a photo shoot for our up coming April/Baseball Issue.
It was entertaining to say the least and with out giving it away, just know
that you’ll find it exciting as well. I hope I make it to my flight on time
so I can be  back on “Drive Time Sports” with Nate and James today. Be sure
and tune in to AM 1510 from 3-6pm to find out! :)

Hugs and Cheers,
